Why did you choose to pursue a career with General Dynamics UK?
After completing a Master’s degree in Advanced Computer Science, I applied for the General Dynamics UK graduate scheme as it offered a good entry point for starting my career. The scheme offered six-month rotations in different departments which allowed me to learn more about the business, and give an insight into the roles I enjoyed the most.
I would recommend General Dynamics UK as a great place to work as the graduate scheme provides great opportunities for graduates to be part of new and interesting projects.
What does your role entail?
Prior to completing the graduate scheme, I was working as a graduate software engineer, working on the EvO programme on the MANAGE product. The role involved project planning and programming, using the latest technologies.
The fast-paced environment alongside the use of Agile methodology, means each engineer has tasks assigned to them to be completed within a specific timescale, which means there is always something to keep you busy. I enjoyed the element of planning projects around your availability which allows me to meet deadlines quickly.
Last year, I completed the graduate scheme, and was appointed into my first role as software engineer, working on our SoftMap product.
What are you career goals?
I would like to build on my knowledge within software engineering and attain a CEng certification. I’d also like to develop into a senior management role as I progress through my career.
