Hastings—The General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited Mission Systems division has been selected by the UK Ministry of Defence to provide Post Flight Analysis (PFA) capability for the P-8A Poseidon aircraft at RAF Lossiemouth.
The contract, awarded by Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), the procurement arm of the Ministry of Defence, will see General Dynamics deliver an acoustic replay and intelligence exploitation system to support the Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) requirements.
“We are proud of our longstanding history supporting Maritime Patrol Aircraft fleets around the world and are thrilled to continue our relationship with the Royal Air Force with this contract award. Our industry-leading acoustics processing technology will help to increase the Poseidon aircrew’s operational readiness and tactical advantage against modern submerged threats,” said Tony Morris, vice president, Air and Naval Systems, General Dynamics Mission Systems–International.
This new system will provide post-mission analysis allowing the fast time replay and processing of full-mission data with an integrated acoustic range prediction tool. Operators will be able to conduct detailed analysis on the most recent acoustic intelligence collection and quickly generate acoustic and environmental briefs to support subsequent Poseidon missions and the wider anti-submarine warfare community. The tool will also offer comprehensive mission reconstruction abilities allowing for strategic mission performance review.
“General Dynamics United Kingdom’s contract award for the new Post Flight Analysis tool is an important step forward in enhancing the PED capability for the UK Poseidon capability,” said Malcolm French, Poseidon delivery team leader, Defence Equipment and Support, UK Ministry of Defence.
Through this contract, DE&S’ Poseidon Delivery Team will procure three units – one for fixed installation at the Main Operating Base and two deployable kits. General Dynamics will provide ongoing support for the tool through a repair and maintenance support package.
