Meet Gareth – desktop support technician

Why IT?
I’ve always preferred a more hands-on approach and was a bit of a tech geek, so the IT field was perfect.  I spent many years working in IT, and was also a helpdesk supervisor prior to joining General Dynamics.

 

Working onsite or remotely?
I work onsite full time – but also have the option to work remotely if needed.  I’ve found it useful to come into the office when joining, as I was responsible for tasks such as the asset management of IT equipment.

 

First impressions?
Everyone I’ve interacted with has been so friendly and welcoming – making my onboarding experience great.

 

What do you enjoy the most?
It’s a fun place to work – definitely due to the variation of the role.  One minute I’m helping users reset passwords and the next I’m configuring hardware for a super important project.  With so many tasks and systems to use, there is always something different to do every day.

Working closely with the teams in Hastings and South Wales is easy, using tools such as Skype and Teams that make virtual meetings seamless – and being onsite helps to see some faces for that friendly touch!
