Meet Lee – engineering lead

After graduating from Mid-Kent College, Lee began to apply his skills as a Trainee Computer Programmer for GEC Avionics in Rochester. After a decade in that role, he was ready for his next challenge, which led him to apply to become a Senior Software Engineer at General Dynamics United Kingdom.

Lee has been with us for 24 years and is now an Engineering Lead for two next-generation aircraft systems that are poised to make significant shifts in the defence industry, the Eurofighter Typhoon and Tempest. His role consists of gathering customer requirements, leading the engineering team to deliver proposals and, ultimately, equipment to those customers.

A recipient of one of the 2022 General Dynamics Mission Systems Engineering Excellence Awards, Lee was acknowledged for his team’s role in the proposal phase of the long-term evolution programme for the Typhoon. To him, being approachable is one of the many qualities that set him up for success.

“When gathering customer information, it’s advantageous to have unguarded conversations. I’ve been in the business for a while now, so perhaps it’s concurrent with years of experience.”

His favourite part of the role? It’s the people and the opportunity to build long-lasting connections across the business. “The people I work with, their levels of integrity, sort of friendship if you will, is what makes working here so great.”
