Harry joined our Finance team in Hastings in the Autumn.  We asked him about his first few months with the Company…

 

Can you tell us about your role?

As an assistant project accountant, my day-to-day responsibilities include supporting bids, assisting project managers, and general management accounting. Previously, I worked in financial accounting in a practice, and I’m a part-qualified ACCA member.

Why General Dynamics?

I’m relatively local so I saw the role advertised and was immediately interested. During my interview, I instantly knew I’d fit into the team. Given the size of the project accounts team in Hastings, I knew that “fit” would be essential for both me and my colleagues.

The other thing that attracted me to the role was the potential to join such a large organisation – as I felt it gave me assurance in terms of progression and development. It’s been great that the organisation is so supportive in helping me complete my ACCA qualification.

What do you enjoy the most about working for General Dynamics?

Definitely the numbers! It may sound corny but I really enjoying working with challenging figures. Plus, having a great relationship with everyone always helps.

As a team, we spend one day per week in the office. This has helped me embed myself better into the team, and our daily morning meetings are a chance to relay what everyone has going on for the day ahead.

The team also met me on my first day and it was a seamless process getting my equipment up and running. Virtual team meetings are now a norm so communication is always easy!
